Torch Renewable Energy, LLC. develops wind energy projects across the United States and leverages GIS technologies to be a leader in this emerging industry. SFG helped Torch build its enterprise GIS system from the ground up and continues to support their enterprise. A process that began with the design, implementation and support of a desktop GIS system tailored for wind development prospecting and management culminated years later with the migration to an ArcGIS Server-based web application that is used daily by multiple Torch staff and project stakeholders. We planned and conducted the initial acquisition and processing of a broad array of data ranging from historical weather data, transportation networks, electric transmission datasets, terrain data, dynamic wind data web-feeds, and lease and parcel information from multiple local governments.
We continue to support the ongoing compilation and integration of key datasets, leveraging the enterprise geodatabase and web application we have built for this client. As part of this effort, we built a suite of tools to facilitate the prioritization of areas for wind farm development, including a geoprocessing widget embedded in the SFG-developed and hosted enterprise web map viewer. A live demo of the TorchMapper web application can be arranged upon request.
